A few years ago I was a Flash artist with a social engineering site called "Wallop" and they called us "modders" It was started by Microsoft, taken over by another company and encouraged artists such as myself to display work on their site in the hope that the members would buy some. It was not that successful and I ended up with a few flash animations that I would like to share and Wallop seems to have disappeared. It is possible to get Flash animations on blogs but they need to be hosted on another server. I have tried this before but not very successfully so I am having another go hosting Flash on Photobucket and you can use them on your blogs by copying the HTML code from our Photobucket Flash Album. A little manipulation of the animation size will be required and we have suggested a size with each animation Of course if you use the Photobucket links you have no control over how or when the animations are displayed on your blogs and if there is sufficient bandwidth so it is possible to download the swf file from our google site and host it on your own server.

You can copy and paste the code below into your html on a post, or into a html-javascript gadget and the clownfish aquarium below will appear in your blog.

Another new Flash animation, one of Dot's ideas, a Royal wedding countdown clock for the wedding Day on 29th April 2011. Prince William and Kate will marry at Westminster Abbey. The animation / countdown clock will give this information when the wedding is reached.

Clematis

A very simple rotating clematis. In this particular case no saving was made by converting an animated gif into a Flash animation as all the frames were only used once.
As some may have noticed, my flash animations use bitmap images and cannot be scaled larger and also keep the quality.

It features Goldy, my first 3D fish model, and what a strange shape he is but at the same time we are very fond of him in this household, especially Dot my wife who has a soft spot for anyone who looks a little strange

I have a feeling that I probably stopped making animations around Christmas time.. I have added a blog book today, an animation modified to suit Blogger.

Photobucket TOS deleted my Naughty Santa

We had to delete our last post because we posted a flash animation of Santa sitting on a chimney very similat to this gif animation on our web site. The flash animation was hosted by Photobucket and they have decided in their wisdom that the animation broke their TOS and would not display it.
Maybe Santa with his trousers down and sitting on a chimney is considered obscene by Photobucket but we think it is harmless fun and this particular Santa has been very popular for many years as a gif animation on our web site, we have only had one complaint about him.
As if this is not bad enough news it is now snowing and temperatures are below zero here in the UK and as everyone knows everything comes to a standstill once we get one inch of snow.

Santa Stuck in the chimney animation

Another Christmas animation, Santa stuck in the chimney. You can re size this to any square proportions but I would not go above 220 x 220 as the bitmap image pixelates. My 5 year old grand daughter did not appreciate this one and thinks Father Christmas will never come down a chimney again.

Another Christmas animation but this one includes a happy New Year message. An example of how a lot of information can be stored in one animation. No way could an animated gif be made to do all this and yet be the same file size.
Dot says that my narration is very boring and repetitive, I mostly leave the text information to her on our website and her blog but here I just let my animations do the talking.

Working Christmas Clock

I have posted this Christmas Clock just a little later than I intended to because I have spent 5 days in hospital. It buggers up the routine when something like that happens but it is nice to be able to play on my computer again.
This little animation is slightly different from most I make because Santa has been created as a vector image and not a bitmap like most of my images used in Flash.

A countdown to Christmas animation. Watch the days hours seconds and milliseconds go by.
The message that opens on Christmas day is "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all at SevenoaksArt" We made the first Christmas countdown in 2003 and someone even downloaded it and tried to make out that he had made it when trying to upload to Wallop. Th Wallop legal team soon sorted him out because I had all the source files for these animations.

We are frequent visitors to Cyprus and a few years back I got badly bitten by mosquitoes. Bitten is probably not the right word as the mozzies suck out your blood but what is left after their meal certainly feels like you have been bitten. Someone suggested using Marmite to repel them. My first thought was "No way am I spreading Marmite all over my body". The theory is that by eating Marmite it will discourage mosquitoes having a go at you. In my opinion it works, every morning I have a slice of toast with a generous helping of Marmite when in Cyprus and only get a few "bites", normally on my fingers.

I love Marmite of course, as they say you either love it or hate it and a few years ago I made this Flash animation which is on our website. This version has been improved slightly, I can always see room for improvement in any of my work.

Chinese animation

Not sure what this animation was about but I made it with a Chinese "flavour" in mind.
When I was making Flash animations for Wallop they had many Chinese members and I had hoped to sell this one for a few cents a time, sadly this was not one of my successful works of art.

A teddy bear welcome with a drop shadow behind it, this sort of thing is possible with a Flash animation. Not much was added last week because we were on holiday in Cyprus for a week and stayed in a hotel that had a Greek manager who closely resembled Basil Fawlty. I have never laughed so much and anyone who is a fan of Fawlty Towers should visit the Evelena in Protaras

The model for this is animation is no other than myself of the Dot and Dave team but I stop smoking 30 years ago when my one and only daughter was born. On the week I packed up I got bronchitis, the only time I have ever had it.

This is the last of the aquariums that I made for wallop and this zebra fish aquarium has been added to the aquarium page. It is nice to see some of my redundant work being used and it gives me pleasure that these aquariums are appreciated. We still have some Flash animations to be added but remember I use bitmap images most of the time and not vector so scaling up anything results in loss of image quality

Candlelit Roses animation

This week we have one of the first animations created, I made quite a few roses as it was the only good 3D model I had at that time. It has been seen on quite a few websites in its animated gif format and seems to be used as an " in memory of" graphic. It was not my intention but it does give that impression.

The image size used is 180 x 180 and this graphic is quite a low resolution bitmap and will distort if used much bigger

We are British so occasionally you will see an animation relating to this fact. Nearly all our Flash animations are based on an animated gif we would have made earlier for our main website so they do not take kindly to being displayed too large an image size. Our recommended size seems to work quite well and the file size is very small for such a complicated animation

Animated Flash Footballs

Football means one thing to us English and another to Americans. This animation can be correctly called footballs. I do have a slight halo around these footballs as animated gifs were used and this animation was made years ago. If I made it today the animation outline would be a little better but I am always critical of my work and looking for ways to improve.

At one time I experimented with the idea of putting little flash animations onto mobile phones. I expect the resolution has changed a bit since I made this one. The ripple effect behind these angel fish seems to work better in a small animation like this and would make a nice little extra to any blog.

Do Daleks get speeding tickets

A few years back I bought a Volkswagen Golf GTI.
This car is very fast, handles well and sticks to the road like glue.
When I first drove it I had a job to judge just how fast I was going without looking at the speedo.On one of my first long journeys I drove through a Gatso/speed trap at 36 mph in a 30 mph area even though I knew the Gatso was there. You can imagine my annoyance at getting a speeding ticket for doing so. This animation was made out of frustration and was not one I added to the Wallop collection

A happy Birthday animation with a difference
Dug this one out from the archives on my computer as it was quite popular on Wallop as everybody has a birthday once a year.

Think I charged something like 10 cents a download but that was daylight robbery so you can have this one free.

The Flash animations have been coming fast and furious this week. I have had a week off from work but next week I will back to a tight schedule so not so many animations will be posted

Normally I work in Dreamweaver which is swyg editing and setting this animation up in a table with text along side it has really tested my limited HTML skills

How to embed flash into blogger

The butterfly in this case is hosted on Google sites and I have linked to it using the code (modify it to suit your requirements and hosting service) in the text box above. It is advisable to host any of my animations on your own server. After you have downloaded the Flash animation from here you will need to upload it to your server and then copy and paste the code, modify the SRC of animation (All text in capitals) change the size width and height to suit your page, some experimenting with sizes may be necessary and then paste it into the html of your blog

Copy and pastethe code below into the edit html of a new posting or go to Design, add gadget, select html- javascript gadget and paste it into that, the butterfly should appear in the centre of the page.

A guppy animated aquarium, one of my favourite fishes, very colourful and very easy to breed. The females are the drab plain brown ones and have their fry live rather than laying eggs and the males are very colourful as in my aquarium and are very randy, always chasing the females.

Again one of my early attempts at 3D modeling but with several face lifts since it was first made.Flash gives the opportunity of making a moving sky background for very little file size increase.The rose itself had to be made from many frames, all bitmaps so this little animation is 160 kb, still not bad for an animation of this complexity

Yet another aquarium, you may wonder why I have not made an aquarium with all different species of fish. I have, problem is that every different fish added increases the file size considerably. I made these aquariums a few years back when it was important to use as little memory as possible so when I get a little time I will try a communal aquarium again.

The first animated gifs of the rabbit in the toiletmobile won an animated gif award many years ago when such contests were popular. Since then I have encorporated it into a much more interesting Flash animation. For some strange reason a very similar animation was very popular with Wallop and was used as a profile background.

A few years ago I had a friend who displayed many second world war aircraft models in his front garden. He had spent years making them and would bring them out each morning. The Spitfire always had pride of place and gave me the inspiration to build a 3D graphic model.Sadly old age creeps up on all of us and my friend no longer displays all his models and has given most to the Shoreham Aviation Museum.

It does not do a lot, just flaps its wings, but the shadow effect seems to work well, this one is the peacock butterfly, seen quite a bit in the UK. I love butterfies and have a selection of old cigarette cards with them on that I have framed and have hanging above my computer.

The goldfish was one of my first animated fish.
They are a strange shape but work quite well when placed into a goldfish bowl.
I gave my four year old grand daughter two goldfish for Christmas with an aquarium, specially selected as plain but hardy, the sort you see as prizes in funfairs. I am very pleased to say that they are still alive, well looked after and very tame. I am now getting big hints that a rabbit is far more fun than goldfish.

Not to everyones taste but they do keep the fly population down.
Another example of how a very simple animated gif can be made into a complicated animation without adding greatly to the file size.
I have yet to make a spider and web , the classic animation that you can find on the internet.

When I was making stuff as a modder on Wallop, a social engineering site started by Microsoft this was one of the favourites. Wallop seems to have disappeared without trace. It was a good idea and had a big following at one time but you had to pay for any animations like this. I'm giving them away! They have been on my computer for a long time and its nice to see someone using them. It has been used as a background but if you make this animation too big it will use up a lot of your computer's resources.

It seems to work OK John from the Beehive Blog successfully embeded the tetra aquarium into his blog. Thanks for your help John, I do not have any beehives (at the moment) but do have some bees. When I lived in Riverhead our local pub was called the Beehive, it was no bigger than someones front room but has a lot of character.This is my first venture into using the new blog templates and I really like them. This colourful one may not be to every taste but I think it goes with the animations.
I have a few more aquariums and a lot of daft animations so watch this space and lets see what appears. They do need a little modification before I can embed them so it all takes time.
